"I've never had much use for prophecy and spiritual devotion, Matriarch."
"It's because you are your father's daughter."
Esere stopped, even as Lady Liadrin continued walking through the gallery. Armored footfalls sounded hollow in the room empty of everything but the holy artifacts of the Blood Knights and the two Knights. Her laughter was just as strange in such a sacrosanct place. "You seem surprised that I knew of your father."
Esere recovered, taking up her place just behind the leader of her Order. It took a moment for her to regain her voice. "It's not that, my Lady. It's the mention of him."
"And that causes you some concern?" the former priestess asked as stopped before the banner emblazoned with the seal of the Blood Knights. Her eyes passed over the stitch work, letting her question hang.
"I've seen the protection that once surrounded the sundered city of mages has been taken down. There is a crater deeper than some of the tallest spires of Silvermoon and magical residue clings to the bedrock." The vice-captain kept her eyes directly on the Matriarch, hoping to glean some hint of some hidden information from the silent speech of her stance. If the sindorei knew something, she was skilled enough to hide it.
"Is that so? I've not had the luxury of talking to Rommath for some time. The conflict on the Sunwell had taken up most of my attention. Perhaps that will change...." Liadrin smiled as she reached forward and touched the gilded edge of the banner. "The fighting has all but stopped."
Liadrin suddenly turned and strode through the gallery with more determination in her step. Esere kept just behind her, waiting for an opening to ask her questions. She never had the opportunity. "His ritual to summon his liege has been foiled. The traitor Kael'thas tried to use the power of the Sunwell selfishly, but he has been stopped. The Well has been saved. We have been saved." Liadrin nodded once to the Knight standing guard at the doorway before she moved through it.
The corridor led out to the common areas of the Blood Knight order - the areas that lead to the administrative seats, the training areas, the meeting halls, the libraries. As the two sindorei passed, Knights would bow to their Founding Lady and others would bend their heads in deference, fiegned or otherwise, to the One that gave direction and leadership to the Sindorei's fighting force. Esere bit back her new questions, following in Liadrin's wake.
The silence between the two women was finally broken as the Matriarch stopped where the hallway branched. The Matriarch turned to consider Esere for a long moment, much in the same way that Esere had done to her own Knights and members of the Suncrown alliance. "I know your determination, and you do not need to seek my approval to go to such means. While the council may not fully trust any who once served the Traitor, I do not see any reason to stop you from completing your mission. You will find your answers, daughter of Greyseer. Both of them. Give your husband my regards," Liadrin smiled ephemerally as she continued down the hall, stepping through the open door of her council chamber as the Knight closed it behind her.
Esere watched as the Matriarch disappeared from view, wondering which of her questions were supposed to be answered.
