Sin'Dorei NobilityThe Noble Houses of Silvermoon are bloodlines of the first elves to have landed and settled Quel'thalas. The title of "Lord" is bestowed to the patriarch of these modern day families, which currently number in the upper hundreds. As time has progressed from the founding of Silvermoon, the notion of a Noble House and its Lord has morphed into translating to wealth, property, and power which, of course, can be traded.
As might be assumed, there are certainly different levels of nobility. Much of this divergence has held over from pre-siege opinion that the closer you were to Silvermoon, the more powerful you were. Nobles familes from south of the Elrendar river were, and still are to some degree, considered second-rate nobility.
In addition, there are some noble bloodlines that have all but faded into absolute obscurity. With the devastation left by the siege on Silvermoon, you can never truly tell if the mud-covered ranger passing you on the street is actually of noble blood or not. They might not even know it themselves.
Silvermoon's CouncilSilvermoon's Council consists of 150 open seats. These seats are elected positions and can be held by any citizen of Silvermoon, even the common-born. Traditionally, and in recent times especially, the noble lords of Silvermoon have had a strangle-hold on the seats of Silvermoon's Council. Those with money, power, and influence find it easiest to obtain and maintain these council seats.
((For our purposes, <Suncrown> holds the opinion that all noble houses named within our guild currently hold seats on the council.))Legacy SeatsWhen the marble walls of Silvermoon were first raised, it was due to the investment of 25 of the Quel'Dorei's most powerful noble bloodlines. In thanks for their investment, these 25 families were assured that their lord would always have a place on Silvermoon's Council. These 25 seats are seperate from the 150 open seats of the council and have come to be called "legacy" seats over time, given their non-elective nature.
The siege on Silvermoon has left a good number of these seats vacant. Only 13 of the original 25 bloodlines remain, leaving the legacy seats with a great deal of opportunity to throw their weight around if they chose to do so. Houses that can boast a Legacy Seat are considered high-nobility.
It is important to note that a Legacy Seat can only be revoked from a house if there is more than 2/3 consensus in favor of removal. The removal of a house from a Legacy Seat has only happened once or twice in recorded history, and is not a lightly taken action. With the depleted number of Legacy Seat Houses since the siege, the idea of removing a Legacy Seat by force is nearly unthinkable.
((As time has gone on within <Suncrown> we've named quite a few noble houses. Based on the descriptions given for these houses, and in some cases in order to generate plot, the following houses have been deemed as Legacy Seated-Houses:Nerel'thosBlackswanGreenbriar - empty seatDuskwatcherGoldenrainNightsable - empty seatStarsworn))
